Michele’s journey from the ancient streets of Agrigento, Sicily, to the shores of Aotearoa is a tale of passion, dedication, and culinary artistry. Growing up in a family where food was the centrepiece of every gathering, Michele developed a profound appreciation for the power of a well-prepared meal to bring people together.

The Birth of Passo
Passo, which means “to pass by” or “to drop in,” perfectly encapsulates Michele’s vision for his restaurant. It’s not just a place to eat; it’s a destination where friends and family come together to share stories, laughter, and unforgettable meals.
The name is also a nod to Michele’s family history, echoing the street name where generations of Passarellos have lived in Sicily. After honing his skills in his father’s restaurant and exploring the diverse culinary landscape of Italy, Michele set his sights on New Zealand. Drawn by the country’s reputation for exceptional produce and its welcoming spirit, he found a new home in Kāpiti.

Our Culinary Philosophy
At Passo, we believe in honouring tradition while embracing innovation. Our menu is a carefully crafted blend of time-honoured Sicilian recipes and contemporary New Zealand flavours. We start with the freshest local ingredients, many of which remind Michele of the robust flavours of his homeland. These are then transformed using both traditional techniques and modern culinary innovations to create dishes that are at once familiar and excitingly new.
